Filipa Oliveira is a contemporary jeweller inspired by traditional crafts, especially filigree. She uses this ancient technique in a contemporary way to lend detail and heritage to her delicate work. This historical element allows both the past and present to be encompassed within each piece of jewellery and is evocative of different times and cultures.

ABOUT
My work explores the ancient and traditional jewellery technique of filigree, which is becoming rare in practice, and also pushes the boundaries of this craft through contemporising its application and design.
I create contemporary filigree jewellery that is hand-crafted using a 5000 year old technique, which has been passed down from one generation to the other.
My passion for jewellery started at a young age and in 2004 my jewellery studies began at CINDOR in Portugal, and the dream started…I moved to Scotland in 2008 to develop my design skills and spent 3 years studying Jewellery Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, having graduated with First Class Honours.
I live between Portugal and Scotland and work everyday to disseminate this unique knowledge, which I share in my Contemporary Filigree Classes, and lately in the Contemporary Filigree Jewellery Book, which I am curating.
